Name of a romance film with a guy named Sally or Sal (i think) that works in a bowling alley?

Ok, so when I was on holiday last year in San Francisco, I turned the TV on and there was a film where this man and woman were walking on a road somewhere, and it was all romantic and he was trying to woo her, and he lies on the road. I think that main man in it works at a bowling alley with one of his friends and I think he's called something like Sal or Sally. And maybe they are plotting some criminal scheme or something? Anyway, this has been bugging me for months and I really wanted to watch the rest of it cos it looked really romantic the way the couple acted together. I have no idea who was in it or when it was made, but it didn't look too current. Thank you anyone who answers!!
