Can a landlord have an open house if we feel uncomfortable about it.?

me and my mom were wondering if it is legal to have an open house if we do not feel comfortable about. we have many exspensive things in our house. this town is full of losers there is many brake ins in my area lately we dont want to chance it. is there any way out of this? by the way we live in new hampshire.
